The photo above was taken during the activities of the rededication ceremony of the Peekskill railroad station, the site where President Lincoln stopped and spoke to a crowd of 1500 people 143 years ago on his way to his first Presidential inaugural address.

After a call went out for reenactors to participate, the 15th NYVC answered the request.

The ceremony started by a gathering at the Lincoln Monument on South Street, Peekskill, NY, for presentation of colors, a benediction and the wreath laying. A parade then followed to the Lincoln Depot train station on South Water Street where a ribbon cutting ceremony took place. The 15th NYVC had the honor in portraying as military escort for President Lincoln. Mr.Griest, portraying President Lincoln stood on the exact spot where on February 19, 1861, President Lincoln addressed the people of Peekskill, NY. A Military Honor Guard from West Point also presented honors to conclude the ceremony. A tour of the recently acquired Train Depot, home of the future Lincoln Civil War Museum followed. The Mayor of Peekskill and other local political figures also attended adding there support to the project. The efforts of this endeavor are owed to the Lincoln Society of Peekskill, Paul Martin III, Rockland Civil War Round Table and other affiliate organizations.

It is hoped that work on the restoration of the depot property will be under way soon transforming the station to its 1843 appearance. In speaking to Paul Martin and the Mayor, they both look forward to an annual Civil War event at the Depot highlighting different aspects of the conflict.
